Armed Forces and Allies Network

Mission

The mission of the Armed Forces and Allies Network is to support the professional and personal development of military-affiliated and military-adjacent employees at all levels, to enhance belonging, retention, and career mobility.

Purpose

The purpose of the Armed Forces and Allies Network is to create a supportive community for employees who share common characteristics, experiences, and backgrounds related to military service. Members will experience professional development, mentorship, camaraderie, and a sense of purpose to cultivate a thriving community.

Goals

  1. Social mixers to establish, strengthen, and expand networks;

  2. Community service projects with local military organizations;

  3. Panther Buddy (program for new military-affiliated employees to be paired with an existing military employee during the on-boarding process);

  4. Connect members with relevant university and community resources;

Membership

AFAN promotes an inclusive environment. No eligible individual will be denied membership based on religion, age, race or color, marital status, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation. Registrants become active members upon verification of eligibility and payment of annual dues.

  • Eligibility

    Full membership is open to any employee that is at least half-time in a benefits-eligible position, on-site or remote, at Florida International University who is military-affiliated or a military ally. Additionally, FIU retirees are eligible for membership, but cannot hold an executive office or serve as chairs of standing committees.

  • Rights

    A full member in good standing shall be afforded all the rights, privileges, and obligations of membership, including, but not limited to, the right to vote, the right to seek office, and participation in organization activities.

  • Dues

    No dues are required for an annual membership. AFAN reserves the right to reconsider membership dues in the future.
